66 Founding Black Panther Party 2.0

“Our hair grows upwards, it does not hang down. This is what it is supposed to be like”, she said. She told me how annoying it was to deal with people who wanted to touch her afro.

“So, I believe that one day I will found the Black Panther Party 2.0, I can already picture it”, she laughed. “No one will be smiling. All dressed in black. The afro needs to show!”

She is an artist, too, and she went on to explain her idea for an artwork on that topic an afro made of metal wire which gives off electric shocks when you touch it. “Then everybody will know what it feels like”, she said. “‘Can I touch it?’ – ‘Yes, sure!’ – Zzzzt. That’s how it works!”

I asked her whether she already had a prototype. Since she said no – I made her smallest into a small non-electric prototype. Want to touch it?
