65 The Life Path

“I have two column beliefs about how I live my life. Number 1: I believe that we are each given a personal path, a life path, a framework, by someone.

And number 2 is that I believe that if you behave well —and by well, I mean in a Christian, human sense — then you'll get more good opportunities in your life. If you do something good, something good will happen to you.”

So, how do the two fit together?

About the first column, she said: “I believe in a higher power, God, Universe, a Guardian Angel, something. You are born into a certain environment, and you have a certain path available to you. I imagine it like a game board, actually. I believe everyone has a game board. I'm dealt certain cards, and I grow up in a certain environment. I have certain physical and intellectual abilities. And there's also an idea of what my life could look like, a framework.

And now I'm going through life and have to deal with it all on my own, and this higher power is basically watching me and maybe has an idea for me and knows what the best version of myself is.

It knows exactly, because either it created me or it was there in the creation process, but it knows what's best for me and what my life could look like accordingly. And now I'm starting to play Ludo on my life and taking the first steps.

And then things just happen — there's an aspect of randomness involved, and this higher power doesn't intervene because we're human, we have our own will, we're meant to unfold, we develop. You make decisions. You make them yourself, and you have the challenge of not having all this universe-knowledge. You're just getting to know yourself. Maybe on some days you are given opportunities, like some kind of event card, but you don't see it because it's not as present as in a board game and you just walk past it. But maybe you are aware and you feel it somehow, you feel like you are being guided, or you feel the energy from a higher power.

Sometimes you make the wrong decisions, random things happen to you because the world just rolls on. In my opinion, it is just a framework, the game is set up – but when it comes to what is set in motion, it comes to life on its own. There might be a few attempts to maybe steer something, but basically it runs on its own…”

She then continued referring to the second pillar:

“If you then behave well in a human sense, you don't just look after yourself, you also help others, you make sure that when you do something, you have a positive influence on people, you are kind to people, that classic Christian faith, then I believe that you – you are still on your own in your life – but you are given a few more opportunities, harder to overlook than others. That's why I believe that there are some things that are meant for you in life, but you are responsible for taking them or not.

Ultimately, you make all the decisions and go through life, and that's all up to you, but I believe that a certain path is set from somewhere, and if you then listen to your gut feeling and it feels right, then you know, okay, that was according to that path, you've hit the sweet spot.”

In conclusion, Melli said it was actually a bit difficult to explain, since she also believed that you can forge your own path, but there's also an aspect of it that is your personality, which is given to you.

“I believe the art in life is that you align your innate personality and preferences with your predetermined path and your innermost core, the one you were born with. It was given to you from somewhere. Your personality gets to be developed in the real world y- in our modern world. So, your task in the game of your life is to ensure that what is given by God and what you have developed yourself is as aligned as possible. For me, that is the purpose.”

Melli’s smallest shows a golden path across a chessboard studded with card game symbols – those opportunities given to you when you follow the second pillar, behaving well in a human sense. The light coming from above represents the idea of a higher power indicating certain directions, but not forcing them. The self going that path is represented by a golden wheel that can go anywhere in principle, and it gets shaped by the path its choosing. The smallest’s frame(work) itself is not 100% solid – rather than being framed with a continuous line, gold particles indicate the presence of a frame, but as they come in contact with the life set-in-motion, they won’t hold everything strictly in place.
