53 Love

“What I believe in… well, in nothing, really. Or… I mean, that might me unoriginal, but… I believe in love. I believe in Nächstenliebe (charity, altruism, brotherly love, philanthropy are all translations of this word to the English language, but the literal translation would be: love of others – in the sense of the saying “love yourself like you love others").

“I believe in helping people, love for my friends, and, of course, love for my partner”, she added. She wanted to know how many other people had said the same. “No one so far!”, I smiled. I looked at her dress: olive green, with golden buttons. She told me that at her partner’s place, paintings of his grandpa were hanging on the walls. His grandpa also enjoyed painting. “What do they show?”, I asked. “A portafilter machine, another one, potatoes…”, she said. “Do you have plants at home?” “I do, but they all died”, she laughed. I found all of this to be so genuine, so real.

It was time for a smallest that showed its belief in a very concrete way. So, I decided to paint a simple, red heart on olive green ground. Complementing colours.
