“I believe in horses that I ride”, Laila said. “What kind of horses?”, I asked. “Big horses, or small horses, ponies?” “Ponies”, Laila responded. “With a yellow mane, and white, with white spots; and white ponies; and brown ponies. And a foal with its mummy.” Her father added that she also believed in unicorns and witches.
Horses, unicorns and witches… this belief catapulted me back into my own childhood. I loved listening to my parents reading fairytales to me. Laila’s smallest is inspired by an unapologetic deep-dive into a magical world where all of this exists. Her smallest shows a little girl sitting on the back of a white unicorn foal with a yellow mane. May this enchanted world inspire your life with magic and call on the ponies to accompany you, dear Laila!
